The last two weeks saw an increasing barrage of questions aimed at Xabi Alonso over his usage (or lack of) of Estevao.
The Chelsea boss had to continually bat away questions about when the youngster would get a chance – because he didn’t want to reveal that he was already planning to use him against Man U on Saturday. But why that game? According to Kieran Gill’s Chelsea Confidential piece for the Daily Mail, it was all about the opposition.
Alonso decides on Man U for Estevao return

Alonso and his coaches are worried about Estevao matching Premier League teams physically. But United “were considered weaker” than most teams in the league. They called it right – the Brazilian had a great game and should have scored.
Now the question is whether Alonso uses the youngster again from the start against Sunderland. We wonder if they will be adjudged to be “weak” enough for Estevao to take on. If he was going by what the fans want, or simply by who made the biggest impression against Man U, there’s no doubt Este would be picked.
