Americans Abroad Weekend Rewind: Balogun, Pepi, and more

AS Monaco’s quest to return to the UEFA Champions League next season took a major boost on Saturday.

Folarin Balogun scored his 19th goal of the season in all competitions, helping kickstart a 2-1 comeback victory over Metz. The U.S. men’s national team forward has now scored four goals in his last five appearances and 12 goals in 2026, continuing to be a major player in Sebastian Pocagnoli’s squad.

After Metz grabbed a 1-0 lead right after halftime, Balogun responded with a confident finish in the 61st minute. Balogun received an upfield pass from Maghnes Akilouche before drilling a right-footed shot into the far corner of the net.

Monaco would complete the comeback in second-half stoppage time as Ansu Fati’s winner gave the visitors a crucial three points. Balogun played the full 90 minutes while Monaco jumped into sixth place and four points back of the final automatic spot for next season’s Champions League competition.

Up next for Balogun and Monaco is a home date with Lille on May 10.

In England, Antonee Robinson started in Fulham’s road loss to Arsenal. Aidan Morris and Middlesbrough drew at Wrexham, officially clinching their promotion playoff spot. Sam Coffey and Manchester City moved one step closer to lifting the WSL title.

In Italy, Christian Pulisic came off the bench in AC Milan’s loss to Sassuolo. Weston McKennie and Juventus were left frustrated after a draw against relegation-threatened Hellas Verona. Gianluca Busio helped Venezia earn automatic promotion back to Serie A.
