Celtic’s title defense in the Scottish Premiership has gone off without a hitch.
Auston Trusty and Cameron Carter-Vickers both continued their partnership in the starting lineup as Celtic rolled past Kilmarnock 5-1 on Sunday at Rugby Park. The American duo both started and played 90 minutes apiece as Celtic claimed its second-straight win in league play to begin the new campaign.
Trusty won two duels, made five clearances, and two blocks while Carter-Vickers made six clearances, won three duels, and made five defensive recoveries. With Liam Scales still serving a suspension from last season, both Trusty and Carter-Vickers padded their statuses to remain starters once Scales is back available.
Celtic will now turn its attention towards advancing in the Scottish League Cup as they visit Dundee United in the Round of 16 on August 15. Martin O’Neill men will then face off with Austrian champions LASK in a two-legged UEFA Champions League playoff series, starting on August 19 in Glasgow.
Trusty and Carter-Vickers will both have a vital role to play this season, especially with Celtic chasing down multiple trophies again.
