Arsenal are confident that the club can reach an agreement with Atletico Madrid to sign Julian Alvarez, if the forward opens doors to a move to North London.
Alvarez is determined to leave Atletico Madrid this summer and received a hostile reception when appearing as a substitute against Villarreal at the weekend. The Argentine went public with his desire to leave Atletico earlier this summer, amid transfer interest from Barcelona.
The 26-year-old only wants Barcelona at this stage, but Atletico are insistent that he will not be sold to a La Liga rivals. As a result, Arsenal are ‘attentive’ to the situation and Fabrizio Romano has reported there is internal confidence from the Gunners that a fee can be agreed.
Atletico are understood to want around €150m for Alvarez if he is sold this summer, a fee that would represent a new British transfer record.
The Rojiblancos had said Alvarez was not for sale under any circumstance, but the hostility of the home fans towards the wantaway forward could change that stance.
The Atletico fans threw scarfs in Alvarez’s direction at the weekend, as he headed down the tunnel at full-time. He opted not to applaud the fans with the rest of his teammates at full-time.
