Atletico Madrid host Deportivo A Coruña at the Riyadh Air Metropolitano on Saturday as they aim to reduce the distance to La Liga leaders Barcelona.
Diego Simeone’s men have been excellent in the league, occupying second place on the back of five straight wins. That run featured a significant 2-1 derby success against Real Madrid, followed by a gritty 1-0 triumph at Espanyol. Their only recent setback came in Europe, where they were held to a 1-1 Champions League draw by VfB Stuttgart. Even so, Atlético continue to look organised, tough to beat, and defensively solid.
Atletico Madrid team news
Simeone has several selection concerns heading into the game. Club captain Koke is still out with a hamstring problem and is not likely to return until the beginning of November.
New central defender Cristian Romero is unavailable because of an adductor issue, with the club choosing to manage his recovery carefully before demanding fixtures against Bayern Munich and Barcelona.
Johnny Cardoso is also absent after picking up another injury. There is better news in midfield, however, as Lee Kang-in has recovered from a quad complaint and is ready to play.
Up front, Julián Alvarez and Alexander Sørloth are both in contention, with Alvarez likely to start after scoring in the midweek draw with Stuttgart.
Atletico Madrid predicted lineup
Possible Atletico Madrid starting XI: Oblak; Llorente, Pubill, Hancko, Grimaldo; Cardoso, Barrios; Simeone, Kang-in, Baena; Alvarez
