The World Cup has yet to begin, but with the club season over we’re starting to get a clearer picture of clubs’ transfer plans for the summer.

This morning we’ve had fresh word of transfer interest in one of Chelsea’s best young players.

Josh Acheampong has been criminally underused by a number of coaches, but the club still continue to insist they rate him and want to keep him around.

Today the Evening Standard claim that Chelsea “rejected multiple transfer approaches” for the 20 year old, and “have no plans to sell the talented defender.”

Fans will be relieved to hear that – but it’s only a positive if new manager Xabi Alonso actually plans to use him. It sounds a little like Alonso might be planning to use a back 3, and Acheampong would be perfect for a wide centre back role in that setup.

With no European football at Stamford Bridge this year, minutes will be even harder to come by. Let’s hope Chelsea have a plan.

In other news…

Chelsea’s plan for what to do with their strikers is also pretty uncertain, with a number of options available without any one looking too appealing as Joao Pedro’s backup.

Marc Cucurella’s situation at Chelsea remains very uncertain, with the full back closer than ever to departing the club according to the latest rumours.
