The big update from Xabi Alonso’s press conference today was that Joao Pedro is going to be out for some weeks.
That’s dreadful news – but the manager followed up by confirming that summer arrival Emmanuel Emegha is fit and would be “in the squad” to face Liverpool tomorrow.
“For sure, it’s important we have him available. He’s been training for the last 10 days in a good way to allow him to build up his fitness. Maybe tomorrow he has the chance to play,” the ever-coy Alonso said.
Emegha expected to make full Chelsea debut this week

We can’t say we’re expecting too much from a guy who has barely completed 90 minutes once in the last 12 months, and has yet to play a minute this season or in English football at all.
But it looks like he is about to get his chance, and if he takes it, it could be a life changing moment for him.
We’re not sure if he will get the nod to start against Liverpool tomorrow, but either way, it won’t be long before we finally see him in action for Chelsea.
In other news…
Alonso confirmed the JP injury was going to rule him out for a number of weeks – although he was as vague as ever.
Saturday’s defeat was about more than just three dropped points. It was a very worrying step backwards for the team.
Maxence Lacroix is another Chelsea player who has been criticised for his performance against Tottenham.
