Solanke Wants to Prove Himself to De Zerbi
The 29-year-old remains Spurs’ only recognised senior number nine, which gives him a strong hand. His late equaliser against Manchester United was a timely reminder of his ability, and he is understood to be focused on improving his fitness and consistency rather than seeking a move.
With Richarlison omitted from the Premier League squad and Omar Marmoush not viewed as a natural centre-forward, De Zerbi has few alternatives. Solanke’s contract runs until 2030, so Tottenham are under no pressure to sell him.
Tottenham Eye Fresh Attacking Options
Even so, the club are expected to strengthen up front in January. Oh Hyeon-gyu has been linked, while Real Madrid’s Endrick, 20, could be available on loan after limited minutes under Jose Mourinho. Competition for the Brazilian is likely to be fierce.
Our Opinion: Competition Could Help Solanke
Another striker arriving does not necessarily mean Tottenham have lost faith in their £65 million signing. His biggest issue has been fitness and consistency rather than quality, and relying on one forward all season would be risky for De Zerbi.
Healthy competition might be exactly what Solanke needs. If he stays fit and rediscovers his scoring touch, he can still be Spurs’ first choice, particularly while the team continues to struggle for goals.
