Manchester United are reportedly interested in signing Club Brugge defender Joaquin Seys, as per Football Insider.
The 21-year-old started his youth career at Oostende before joining the Belgian giants’ youth system at the age of seven. After rising through their academy, he made his first-team debut a couple of years ago before establishing himself as a key starter last campaign.
He enjoyed a promising season last term, scoring twice and registering seven assists in 48 appearances across all competitions. Moreover, he helped his side keep five clean sheets.
The defender has even enjoyed a bright start to this season. The youngster has won a Belgian Pro League title and a couple of domestic cup competitions in recent years.
Having proven his worth in club football, Seys secured his place in Belgium’s World Cup squad but remained on the periphery, playing only 29 minutes.
Now, Football Insider report that after revamping the midfield department, Man Utd are set to accelerate their efforts to sign a new left back to create competition for Luke Shaw.
They have identified Lewis Hall as the priority target, but having already sold Anthony Gordon, Bruno Guimaraes and Sandro Tonali this summer, Newcastle United don’t want to part ways with any other star players.
Seys to Man Utd
With the player’s existing deal set to run until 2029, the Magpies have valued Hall more than £60m to keep the vultures away.
So, the report state that United have shifted focus to alternatives and have earmarked Seys as a serious option. Moreover, Myles Lewis-Skelly and David Raum are also on their radar.
The Club Brugge star is valued at around £17m by Transfermarkt and still has a contract until 2029. So, the Belgian giants are in a strong position to demand a sizable amount of money if they are forced to cash-in on him.
Seys is a left-footed left-back by trait but is also comfortable on the opposite side. He is quick, technically sound, can dribble past opposition defenders in tight areas, and is efficient in defensive contributions.
Seys is a talented player and could be a shrewd acquisition for Man Utd should they eventually opt to secure his services this summer.
