Reece James’ painful injury record has meant that he’s missed out on too many of England’s major tournaments, and he finds himself now finally fit and ready to be a key player at the World Cup.

Chelsea very carefully manage his minutes through the season, and it seemed to serve him well. But the right back insists his body is now ready for more if the demands are there.

James claims he’s ready for “three 90s” if it’s needed

“I can play three 90s a week. I came back at the end of last season, I played in the last few games and I’m feeling good,” a defiant James said in an interview with the Daily Mirror.

Even though he claims he can, we really don’t want to see it tested. Managing the minutes around the squad is going to be a huge part of this tournament, and England should really be looking to use James as sparingly as possibly until the sharp end.

If he needs to play three times in a week for the quarter, semi and final, that’s worth risking. Playing all three group games would be a risk not worth taking.
