Pape Sarr could head out the Tottenham door before the September 1 deadline, but Spurs have put a surprisingly high valuation on the midfielder that leaves a significant gap between what the club wants and what interested parties appear willing to pay.
Tottenham have bolstered their midfield this summer with the additions of Sandro Tonali and Mateus Fernandes for a combined £185 million. While João Palhinha left at the end of his loan spell, no other senior midfielder has been sold, leaving Roberto De Zerbi with an abundance of options in the middle of the park. It was previously reported that one Spurs midfielder could be allowed to leave for £30 million, but it has now emerged the player in question could cost significantly more than that figure.
Tottenham want close to £50m for Pape Matar Sarr
CaughtOffside have confirmed what other sources have reported over recent weeks, revealing that Sarr’s future at Spurs is uncertain following the club’s midfield additions this summer. The report reveals that Al Ahli have made enquiries about Sarr, while Aston Villa and Brentford are also keeping tabs on the Senegal international. Tottenham are open to selling if a suitable offer arrives, but there has been no formal bid for the 23-year-old so far.
The outlet suggests that while Villa may explore a £30 million move for the former Metz man, Tottenham value him closer to £50 million. It is suggested the Lilywhites will not rush into accepting a low fee for Sarr, given he is young, Premier League proven, and contracted until 2030, all of which strengthens the club’s negotiating position considerably.
Another Tottenham midfielder facing an uncertain future
Sarr is not the only Tottenham midfielder whose future is up in the air. Reports indicate Lucas Bergvall remains intent on exploring a late move away from the club. The Swede is thought to want a prominent starting role, which he is unsure he will get in north London, with Newcastle and Nottingham Forest both eyeing a late move for the midfielder. According to Alasdair Gold, it would take an offer of over £60 million to price Bergvall away from Tottenham at this stage of the transfer window.
