Chelsea’s £117m move for Morgan Rogers was something of a surprise this summer. He had been linked with moves, including one to Arsenal, but the Blues weren’t seen as favourites until they jumped in.

They wrapped up a deal quickly, and Arsenal ultimately ended the summer without signing the superstar attacker they had hoped for.

Xabi Alonso was asked yesterday about what a coup it had been to make such a big splash and sign Rogers from under the Gunners’ noses:

“Talking about the squad planning, we are taking big decisions. For sure, Morgan was a big one to get, a player of his stature in present and future. He will be a key player for the next six or seven years.

“Right now, he has had a great impact. His chemistry with the whole team is great, with the chemistry with his striker partners is fantastic. That is happening in a short time. It gives us a lot of hope for the future. He looks really happy, so that is important.”

Now let’s just pray that Rogers can show Arsenal what they’re missing tomorrow afternoon…

One tactical decision we’ve heard a lot about is Levi Colwill in the left channel of Chelsea’s defence, and Alonso discussed that too.

Two teenage academy midfielders were name-checked by Alonso in the same press conference, giving fans a lot to get excited about.
