Christian Pulisic still has several years to go in Europe but MLS commissioner Don Garber is hoping that the U.S. Men’s National Team star will consider a move to Major League Soccer.
Pulisic is heading into the final season of his current contract with Serie A club AC Milan, opening the door to speculation about what’s next for him. The 27-year-old is set to stay with the Rossoneri for the upcoming season despite a change in personnel with Ruben Amorim taking over as manager for Max Allegri.
Pulisic hit the ground running last summer and fall by scoring 10 goals during the opening four months of the season. However, a struggling second half of the season saw Pulisic fail to find the back of the net from January onward as AC Milan missed out on a top-four finish in Serie A.
Eastern Conference club NYCFC has been linked with Pulisic as he could potentially be the latest big name to make the move to MLS from a top European league. Robert Lewandowski and Antoine Griezmann are just two of the latest arrivals in MLS this summer while Mo Salah among others remain linked with potential moves to North America.
Garber believes Pulisic’s arrival in MLS could be good for all parties, especially given the proximity from New York to his hometown of Hershey, Pennsylvania.
“I hope that they can sign a Christian Pulisic,” Garber said in an interview on Fox News. “I believe he would be great in our league, and I believe our league would be great for him. Give him an opportunity to do what Landon Donovan did, come to Major League Soccer, spread your wings, be a star, be just up the road from your family in Pennsylvania. I hope they get it done.”
Pulisic suffered a microfracture in his leg during the USMNT’s 4-1 Round of 16 loss to Belgium at the FIFA World Cup, which could put the start of his new club campaign on hold.
AC Milan will open its Serie A schedule on August 23 at Torino.
