FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – The Methodist women’s soccer team-controlled ball possession from start to finish, rolling to a 4-1 victory over Guilford College on Wednesday night for the Monarchs home opener at Duggins Soccer Stadium.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Senior Allye Carter collected her first goal of the season from a shot deflected off the crossbar by freshman Sydney Campbell, leading to Campbell’s first collegiate assist in the third minute and the Monarchs early 1-0 lead.
- Guilford’s Madison Motto deflected one of sophomore Kat Cardiff’s pair of shots, driving sophomore Jordan Mazzei’s momentum to the goal for both Mazzei and Cardiff’s first collegiate score and assist of their collegiate careers in the 31st minute, giving Methodist a 2-0 advantage at the half.
- Methodist’s control of the ball in the first half steered the momentum in their favor, outshooting the Quakers nine to one through 45 minutes of action.
- The Quakers Kylee Berry scored Guilford’s lone goal off the free kick from 30 yards out in the 54th minute, cutting the score to 2-1 in favor of the Monarchs.
- In the 64th minute of action, graduate student Summer Ward placed her assist perfectly in the attack zone for Allye Carter to strike on her second goal of the game and the season, extending Methodist’s margin 3-1.
- This game would be put out of reach for Guilford, as freshman Ryley Brinkley’s touch pass at midfield would drive Kat Cardiff all by herself to score her first goal of her collegiate career, soaring the Monarchs lead to 4-1.
- Senior Sabrina Nassar held strong for the remaining 45 minutes in goal, surrendering one goal against while collecting six saves off ten shots faced.
BY THE NUMBERS
- Methodist outpaced Guilford offensively, sending 16 shots to the Quakers 11, along with ten of those shots being on goal compared to Guilford’s seven shots of goal on the night.
- Allye Carter was the lone multi-goal scorer from the Monarchs commanding offensive performance, resulting in her first two-goal showing of her collegiate career.
- Carter finished the night with three shots launched in possession of the ball, with all three scoring attempts on goal.
