On Monday, September 14, the San Diego Wave announced that Catarina Macario would be placed on the season ending injury list. She underwent a minor procedure on her knee, and earlier this year suffered from an injury relating to her ankle.
“We made a significant long-term commitment to Cat because we believe in her ability to make a lasting impact on this club,” said Wave general manager and sporting director Camille Ashton, San Diego Wave in an official statement from the club. “While we are disappointed that she will not be available this season, we are focused on her health and on supporting her throughout this process.”
Macario signed with the San Diego Wave in March 2026, having previously played for WSL side Chelsea for three seasons, and before that, Lyon. Though Macario has made 62 total appearances for the respective clubs, as well as 29 appearances for the US women’s national team, her career has been plagued with injuries. She did not make an appearance for the Wave in the 2026 season.
