Manchester City made to settle for a draw against Paris Saint-Germain

Manchester City were made to settle for a share of the spoils after being held to a 1-1 draw by Paris Saint-Germain at The Joie Stadium this evening.

The Cityzens looked to have won the game with an 85th-minute penalty from Khadija Shaw, but the visitors soon levelled through Tara Elimbi Gilbert.

Manchester City started brightly and Shaw saw a header go wide before Alex Greenwood’s free-kick sailed over the PSG defence and away from goal.

At the other end, Sakina Karchaoui had a shot from range, but it failed to trouble Ayaka Yamashita.

Lauren Hemp then waltzed past the PSG defence and found Shaw, who turned perfectly on the edge of the box, but her shot went wide.

Jade Rose found Hemp on the left and a scramble in the box followed, but the visitors survived the danger.

Rebecca Knaak, who was making her first start of the season, launched a ball to Aoba Fujino. She made a run, but the angle was too tight and the ball skimmed over the net. Greenwood then played a corner short and the ball was collected by Shaw, but she could only send it wide.

Another Fujino strike was well-blocked by Thiniba Samoura before Karchaoui saw a shot float across the Manchester City crossbar and Shaw headed a chance wide.

In the 85th minute, Manchester City were awarded a penalty when Shaw was caught by Griedge Mbock. The Jamaican international stepped up to convert the penalty and put the hosts into the lead.

Shortly after the opener, PSG levelled through Elimbi Gilbert. She darted into the box and slipped the ball through the legs of Yamashita for 1-1.

Tonight’s result means that Manchester City have drawn all three of their UEFA Women’s Champions League matches and are in tenth place in the rankings.
