Ghanaian goalkeeper Jojo Wollacott joins Slovak club FC Kosice on short-term deal

Ghanaian international goalkeeper Jojo Wollacott has joined Slovak club FC Kosice on a short-term contract until the end of 2026, with the club holding an option to extend the agreement until 2027.The 30-year-old goalkeeper has already spent two weeks training with the yellow-and-blue side and will now compete with Matus Kira and Filip Kalanin for the starting goalkeeping position.Wollacotts arrival follows the departure of Kevin Dabrowski at the end of the summer transfer window, prompting Kosices sporting management to seek an experienced goalkeeper to strengthen the squad.Kosice sporting director Terry Westley said Wollacotts experience, professionalism and willingness to work with the existing goalkeeping group were important factors behind the decision to sign him.We were looking for an experienced goalkeeper who would naturally fit into the environment and culture of our club, Westley explained. Joe is a professional in every way and is ready to pass on his experience.Wollacott joins Kosice after spells with several clubs in England, including Bristol City, Forest Green Rovers, Swindon Town, Charlton Athletic and Crawley Town. He also spent the 2023/24 season with Scottish side Hibernian. The Bristol-born goalkeeper has earned 12 international caps for Ghana and was part of the Black Stars setup at senior level. His move to Slovakia represents his first opportunity to play outside England, with Wollacott describing the transfer as both a new challenge and an opportunity to experience a different football environment. This project appealed to me. I saw that this is a significant club that is moving in the right direction, Wollacott said. It is also a personal challenge for me to go abroad and try something new.He added that he had received a warm welcome from his new teammates and was looking forward to healthy competition for the goalkeeping position.I want to play, help the club get to where we want to get together, and I believe that we have a successful season ahead of us, he said.Wollacott will now look to establish himself at Kosice as the club aims to strengthen its goalkeeping department for the remainder of the season.
