Arsenal & Liverpool fall behind Bayern in £75m transfer race

Arsenal and Liverpool are both in danger of missing out on one of their transfer targets this summer as Bayern Munich have stolen a march on them.

The two Premier League clubs have been linked with a move for Newcastle United winger Anthony Gordon, who reportedly wants to leave St. James’ Park.

The 25-year-old was left out of the matchday squad for the 2-1 defeat to Bournemouth on Saturday, fueling speculation over his future at the Magpies.

Eddie Howe insisted that Gordon was sidelined by a hip flexor injury, although he did make a point of saying in his pre-match press conference that only players committed to the club would play.

It now appears increasingly likely that the former Everton star will depart Newcastle at the end of the season, with The Times reporting that the north east outfit are “prepared to open talks” with Bayern.

The German giants have identified Gordon as one of their “main summer signings” and Newcastle are “aware” of their interest in the attacker, although no club-to-club talks have yet taken place.

Gordon is “open” to joining Vincent Kompany’s side, although Newcastle will only entertain talks if their £75 million valuation is matched. The Bundesliga champions are said to value the player at £55 million.

Bayern are said to be “clear favourites to sign Gordon, ahead of Arsenal and Liverpool, and could engage in talks with his representatives “soon”.

The Bavarian club are “keen” to recruit more players from the Premier League after finding success with Harry Kane, Luis Diaz and Michael Olise.
