Guardiola set for City return in show of support

Former Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola is expected to attend the home game against Champions League winners Paris St-Germain next week in a show of support to his former employers.

Guardiola, 55, left the club at the end of last season after a trophy-lined spell in charge which saw him win the treble in 2023.

City have since been rocked with the news that an independent commission found them guilty of 114 charges of financial malpractice.

The club have appealed against the decision but their Premier League future remains uncertain.

In the aftermath of the verdict, Guardiola backed City’s owners and leadership and said he will “always” be behind the club.

“I want every single Manchester City fan across the world to know I am here; more than ever,” he posted on social media.

“I am, always have been, always will, be behind my club, my owner, my chairman, Ferran (Soriano), the players, staff, Enzo (Maresca) and you, our unique supporters.

“Let me be clear: we will get through this together. I love you all.”

The Premier League announced last week that the commission deemed the club had systematically broken the rules with “sham” contracts designed to inflate revenue and reduce costs.

The scale of the deception, reported to have totalled more than £900million, was breathtaking and a number of sanctions now lie on the table. City have continued to deny any wronging and on Friday lodged an appeal after declaring the verdict “unsafe”.
