Brighton carried a single-goal advantage into the second half. Garcia was booked for a foul in the 56th minute, the only card of the afternoon.

Kirby doubled the lead in the 63rd minute. Three minutes later Seike added a third, set up by Joramo.

West Ham’s 13 shots bring only two on target

Rehanne Skinner’s visitors were not short of attempts. West Ham had 13 shots to Brighton’s 8, yet 8 of theirs went off target and only 2 tested the hosts, who made 2 saves all game. Brighton put 4 of their 8 efforts on target.

The expected goals figure of 1.78 against 1.27 favoured Brighton, who also controlled the ball with 60% possession. They completed 485 of 570 passes, against 297 of 372 for West Ham, and won 8 corners to their opponents’ 2.

The result gives Brighton back-to-back wins over West Ham, following a 2-1 victory in the FA Women’s Cup on 22 February. Before that, West Ham had won three of the previous four meetings, including a 3-2 league win on 8 February.
