Watford head coach Renée Hector is expecting her side to be severely tested by latest opponents Sunderland this weekend.
The Golden Girls play host to The Lady Black Cats at Vicarage Road on Sunday afternoon.
Sunderland have taken seven points from three games and Watford boss Hector is expecting the Wearsiders to provide her side with a real challenge.
“I expect a team that’s going to try and attack a lot, whether it be directly or trying to keep the ball a bit more,” Hector said when speaking in the pre-match press conference. “I think they try to keep the ball a little bit more than maybe they have done previously.
“They’ve got some really, really solid players and have had some good results. They’re in the top two for a reason, so we’re expecting a tough test.”
Sunderland may dominate the possession this weekend, but Hector doesn’t see that as a barrier to prevent her side from performing well.
She said “We’ve played games this season already where we’ve had to suffer a little bit or not have the ball as much as we want, but that doesn’t mean we have a lack of control. We’ve made it very clear that you can still control games if you don’t have the ball. That’s not something that we’re typically known for, but it’s still a very, very important part of the game.
“I feel really encouraged and really fired up for Sunday. I genuinely believe we can go and get a good result.”
Watford have collected two points so far and Hector is relatively pleased with the step up to Barclays WSL2 level.
She said “Based on performances over the course of those four games, I feel like we’re in a really good place, and I feel like we’re starting to click. There has been a lot of change in personnel and they are learning the way we play, our style of play and our ethos. That’s always going to take a little bit of time, so we’re happy we’ve been able to pick up a couple of points.”
