Tottenham end Stamford Bridge drought as Chelsea suffer own goal and Palmer dismissal

Chelsea endured a nightmare evening at Stamford Bridge as Cole Palmer was sent off during a disastrous second-half collapse against Tottenham.

Chelsea’s evening turned into an absolute nightmare midway through the second half following a devastating blunder between the posts.

Backup goalkeeper Mike Penders, who had already endured an uncertain performance in build-up play, suffered a catastrophic moment under the Stamford Bridge lights.

Attempting to clear a high, inswinging corner into the box, Penders completely misjudged the flight of the ball and horribly punched it directly into his own net.

The agonizing own goal handed Tottenham a crucial advantage late in the contest.

Chelsea’s second-half collapse began with a disastrous mistake from Penders.

The young Belgian goalkeeper, who was replacing the injured Emiliano Martínez, had already struggled with his distribution during the opening period.

However, his most costly moment came when he attempted to deal with a dangerous inswinging corner.

Rather than clearing the ball away from danger, Penders completely misjudged its flight and punched it directly into his own net.

The extraordinary mistake handed Tottenham the advantage and left the Stamford Bridge crowd stunned.

Before the home side could even recover from the setback of the goal, disaster struck once again.

Talisman Cole Palmer, already on a yellow card, ‘lost his head‘ as described by Gary Neville.

A late challenge saw him leave his studs on Gallagher, resulting in a second  booking and a subsequent red card, reducing Chelsea to ten men and leaving their chances of a comeback in complete tatters.

Mathys Tel seals win that ends Spurs’ Stamford Bridge drought

Capitalizing on their numerical advantage and Chelsea’s structural collapse, Tottenham swiftly put the match entirely out of reach.

Forward Mathys Tel capitalised on the extra man with a solo goal, beating several Chelsea defenders before firing in a strike from outside the box which beat Penders on the near post.

The final whistle confirmed a massive result for the visitors, who registered only their second win of the season.

The result also marked Tottenham’s first Premier League win at Stamford Bridge since April 1, 2018, when they defeated Chelsea 3–1.

For Chelsea, it caps off a disastrous derby performance where they were second to Spurs from for majority part of the game.
